CARES Fund Donates $1.7M+ to Employees

As a result of generous contributions from our individual donors and Fresenius Medical Care North America, over $1.7 million was granted to more than 1,000 employees who found themselves faced with a hardship in 2021. This demonstration of compassion came during a year of unexpected uncertainty and challenges.

The CARES Fund was established more than a decade ago in response to Hurricane Katrina to help FMCNA employees facing unforeseen financial burden brought on by that significant event. Since then, it has helped thousands of employees during events such as natural disasters or personal hardships.

The increase in need during 2021 is directly tied to the COVID-19 pandemic and the more than 25 natural disasters such as Hurricane Ida, winter storms Uri and Viola, Texas flooding, and California power outages. Collectively, these events caused major economic turmoil that left many of our employees in need of support.

When Daneisha, Senior Pharmacy Technician, couldn’t work as a result of COVID-19, she fell behind on several bills and couldn’t afford her two-year-old son’s daycare. A few months later, she contracted COVID-19 again, and a short while later, she was in an accident that totaled her car. All these things added up, but with support from the CARES Fund, Daneisha received a grant to help pay her bills.

“When I got the email, I was so happy, I screamed and cried,” said Deneisha. “It relieved a lot of stress. It’s wonderful to know we have program like this in place.” Daneisha is so thankful, in fact, she’s decided to pay it forward. She plans to donate to the CARES Fund as soon as she’s back on her feet to help other employees in need.

If you’d like to help employees like Daneisha, donating is simple. Any amount helps and goes towards a great cause—helping each other. You can learn more by going to the Fresenius Medical Care Foundation website or by clicking here to make a donation.
